I know, I fell into it. Better to just block something than to try to be fancy and get rekt. [–]SirKrisX 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago* (0 children). Damn Aerial Style looks like a lot of fun this time around. But, when you're new, branching out after spending so much time to develop your skills on the only weapon you've got available to progress... it's rough. [–]Ultramus[] 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children). Whacking with the axe crazily won't get you that, and you need to practice more with it. Come GRank, where you are forced not only to avoid everything giving you less time for attacks, but you are somehow forced now to focus on weakpoints if you want to do at least decent damage. Didn't like it. For ex: Akantor sometimes will run to you like a tigrex and turn around to run over you again, he is wide enough that a roll would not be enough if you got hit once and are already knocked down from the first one. Every time you guard an attack you do elemental damage. The Charge Blade weaves together an empowered sword and stout shield to make up a mighty axe. [–]Kyte524ABC 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children). Also Brave style does not have a Red or Yellow shield charge, it activates Blue shield in Brave mode which is a little worse than Red, but stays for as long as you have your Brave mode depletes. And then start counterattacking whenever possible. -Bring back this monster Red shield is better than yellow shield. There is also a cap (of 1.4x) which can be reached by having artillery novice + eating for felyne bombadier. [–]SirKrisX 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (3 children). Also all of the Blast CBs. The go-to end-game playstyle seems to be Guard +1/2 and being a guard pointing tank. I'm probably gonna get some crap for this, but by G rank you really ought to be able to know your weapon well enough to at least survive most missions. Can be useful outside of Aerial. If you don't know how to GP a monster, or dont know his patterns enough to be able to evade properly, charge your shield and hold R until you feel safe, the shield is wicked awesome and rarely lets you down, also its better than winging it. This is how I played it, actually. [–]SaberToothedRock 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (4 children). Then MH4 came out. It is a pretty common weapon however due to nerfs from 4u to gen/xx, the time attack times are only slightly above average. Thanks to /u/Shup for the info on aerial CB. Last but not least, its good for stunning, like a shitty hammer cuz you can only do it every 2 minutes or so. close. The most popular style for Charge Blade is Striker due to having the best red shield. Guard point smaurd points I use one maybe two a fight concentrate too much on the difficult stuff and you WILL get frustrated. Like the cutting part of the axe? There's a reason for that. CB is for sure one of the most complex melee weapons to use. You need to learn only 2 songs. SwAx uses a more vertical combo, which means less sweeping your teammates and more accurate swinging for say cutting the tail. [–]longbowrocks 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children), (Kind of. What about playing G-rank GH without a team/cats? Tried to work on my GP but am still far from being able to do them consistently to not become a liability. Summary: CB is definitely a weapon for the patient and technically oriented. I never said I was incapable of progressing with it, but I realized that I lacked the skill and monster knowledge to actually capitalize on all of its strengths/abilities. Yeah, I pretty much got LOLstomped in late high rank when I started realising that my axe-happy ways were probably not the way to go. Five posts or comments for every self-promoted submission (Videos/Guides from your personal youtube, etc.) All his other charge blades are situational: Akantor Severance (Raw, Impact, high Affinity, vs. normal Rajang), Die Walküre (Thunder, Element, vs. Seregios, Plum Hermitaur) (I hated farming this CB. Its more consistent and reliable DPS, and one of the cooler parts I think is its ability to charge itself automatically. Geez get a life! Monster Hunter Rise Gets New Trailers Showing Charge Blade & Hunting Horn. -(a) Artist’s name in the title; [–]JokerVictor[S] 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (8 children). Failure to comply with these rules can result in post/comment removal. Those combos were incredibly useful for quick high damage output. Anyone who dodges or blocks, or has a stamina draining move of some sort. Unlimited stamina is useless even for DB user and anyway people can easy craft juicy so fck it. I don't know if any other newb hunters are in a similar boat as me here, just thought I'd say my piece on it. Charge Blade (チャージアックス chyaaji akkusu, "charge axe") is one of the fourteen weapon categories in Monster Hunter Rise (MHR). Obviously well played GPs and ultra bursts make a huge difference in battle too, but I can't stress enough the importance of not doing either until you can do battles without them. Me? To hide spoilers use the following format (just remove all of the spaces). Sword mode dash evade gets a guard point. If you use X+A after using a Shield thrust (X+A) you immediately transition into ultra/super burst. Weapon Names in bold are the final upgrade(s) to that Weapon's path. When the shield is facing forward during certain attack animations, it will block incoming attacks, allowing you to counterattack much faster! G rank scrub noob, hah. Want to play a Monster Hunter in Dungeons and Dragons? [–]MILKB0T 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child). Zamtrios and Frostpeak which means deciding between having 40 more raw with Frostpeak or having more 17 more element. Had no problems dealing with the technicalities of the CB in both LR and HR, but my flaws became painfully obvious by G rank. /s). Azure Skylark (Poison, Impact, Rathalos + Rathian parts) is another, but he doesn't use it in any of his fights. 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (3 children). It does take time I have 200 hours or so clocked into the game and I have everything about the CB on lockdown except GPs. The Charge Blade in Monster Hunter Generations is a unique "switch" weapon. [–]Lord_Kyrae 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (3 children). Alchemy loses the ability to transform into axe immediately after loading phials and SAED (ultra). I normally lurk on this subreddit, but I just wanted to chip in to say that I have had similar experience to yours and you are definitely not alone. [–]archmystGS, SA, Bow 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago* (2 children). Here's what you do, practice another weapon. Not anymore! It has the ability to KO and exhaust monsters when the phials explode on the monster's head. The CB is a weapon that is not as simple as some of the other weapons. Charged Slash does 20+30, Double Axe Swing does 20+40, AED (super) does 75, etc. No prob. But even with a weapon as complex as the Charge Blade the basic mechanics can carry you through most quests with an okay team. Guard Pointing is just exceptionally useful, and not as situational as some might think. [–]Torden5410 15 points16 points17 points 5 years ago (37 children). Here's the kiranico page. When you run into something that you can't do well with your weapon on, that's where you REALLY learn about your weapon. (fireball, tail spin, charge, roar, bite ...). Guard Up if you want to block more attacks, Guard +1/2 stacks with Red/Blue Shield if you want to block more powerful attacks. GP's are very, very useful and not that situational. Fanatical Daily Star Deal - Skullgirls 2 Pack. Even with all of that though, I find it a fun weapon to use and I hardly grow tired of it, except when I feel like switching out for a GL. Charge Blade … Boosts Axe attacks by 1.15x. The Charge Blade is probably Monster Hunter World's most technical weapon, with complicated button inputs that yield very satisfying results when done right. I personally suggest getting Schwarzschild (pure Raw, 3 slots), Die Walkure (start at K. Captain's if you don't want to bother with SSJ2 Rajang; K. Captain's only requires Khezu parts and ores) and the Seltas/Zamtrios CBs. The two highest KO moves hammer has are lv 2 charge at 40 KO and golfswing at 50 KO. What you say about the hunting horn not being easy to casually use is entirely correct. [–]BladeJagerft. I'm not saying you shouldn't cart occasionally, and I also don't think you should have to consider yourself a master. Loved fighting Gore, Shagaru, Brachy and solo'd them w/o cats and wanted to be like the MH4G pros that would speed kill these guys. You switched? Don't feel there is a particular need to get perfect Guard Points and I've gotten by fine without needing to use them. Oct 27, 2017 14,011. [+]Shodjun comment score below threshold-9 points-8 points-7 points 5 years ago (0 children). If it wasn't for the peanut damage I'd probably go SnS. [–]SaberToothedRock 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child). Weapon List. All images are allowed EXCEPT: Then, a year later, I tried it again for some odd reason. Not sure if this answers your question or not since I don't play too much CB. Charge Blades have guard frames called Guard Point. just block until you are confident. Then have them ready for super or ultras. [–]longbowrocks 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child). Charge Blade ID list Concentrating on the difficult stuff is how you build good habits. -Carves & Quest Rewards That seems like the way to do ax. Impact does a percentage of the weapon's raw and does NOT factor hitzones (It will do the same damage no matter what part of the monster you hit). Yeah, I can't say I've extensively tried other weapons but they always seem to take much longer to kill solo. If I'm unsure about my ability to dodge an attack, I'll GP it and nine times out of ten walk away smiling. You can cancel SAED (ultra) into AED (super) by pressing back + X. Funny enough I was a longsworder/gs in 3U as well, I don't do LS anymore because I have concern for others online and I dont like playing cautiously, as for GS it doesn't pump my blood like CB does. Now I can do G rank Molten in about 14 minutes. Honestly man starting G rank is like starting all over agin you'll get the hang of it. I'm hitting a wall with the CB as well trying to solo the G2 keys. Learning the moveset for CB was probably the most difficult thing ever coming from a guy whose barely touched a MH game. Element does concentrated element (as in each explosion does a multiplier times the element the weapon has). I created two spreadsheets on the matter: TLDR: Impact Phial is better when the element to raw hitzone ratio is low while Element Phial starts doing better in high element to raw hitzone ratios. If you're fighting a new monster, it's better you don't use a lot of GPs until you get a feel of its attacks. Just press R and morph into sword form, run away/GP until safe, sheath then heal. [–]ThiefZeroCB/GS 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (3 children). striker also gets a 5% damage boost(or was it ten?) A weapon … The Charge Blade possesses an unique feature called Guard Point. Holy crap that was a mistake. [–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago* (1 child), I feel like if you use the HH a lot (like a lot a lot), you would be able to memorise the songs by heart. [–]111phantomJay Leno Supremo Smash 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children). That was it, I was gonna go for it. The weapon is a tad too slow it seems to me. Low rank: Jabujabu with obsidian weapons HR: Jabujabu S with obsidian weapons until you can craft Silver Rath gear, it can do a lot of damage with proper Weakness Exploit use. I didn't find this to be a real problem until G rank, where making that mistake gets you killed. [–]DrZeroHCOME BACK HERE, FUTURE PANTS!!!!! Yeah. chevron_left. The affinity differences aren't that significant since you can add critical eye +2 relatively easy. [–]archmystGS, SA, Bow 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children), Nice post! And speaking of the charge A, I find there's one very convenient string of attacks to do when charging your phials/shield/phials again at the start of a fight or after and ultra burst. It went from 20 mins, to 15, to less than 10, to about 5 mins. Still wouldn't recommend Ultras because they are still weak. Make gore one for now. And hadn't touched anything else until I needed monoblos horns. For me is a newfound passion in using LBG, but i still use the CB as much as i used before. Honestly, once you have the hang of these you can handle entire battles without any guard pointing or ultra bursts at all (which is what practically everyone focuses on, seriously, watch any CB player online and 95% of them blow ultra bursts and die trying to GP everything). Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate data reference. So I planned to use it in 4U as well. Does it have a move or something I overlooked, cuz I dont think it has a specific evade move on it. [–]Tigrrrr 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children). It can do everything! I use CB almost exclusively for solo (no cats) just because guard points are so fun. Its a solid if you want it to be, its gas if you want it to be, or even a liquid. I now nearly have 200 hunts with my beloved weapon, but definitely those CB skills I have never rusted. / The Axela Blade's final form. I kept getting hit by his fireballs and i was never able to go in axe mode, etc. Makes me want to try it out again for some fun, [–]AWarmShowerG. Well from what I can tell its because for CB users like me, the sword and shield part is appealing as fuck, I rarely use the axe form unless I am about to do a Super or an Ultra burst. I did quite well learning the weapon in low ranks, felt I was doing a great job mastering it through high rank.... and then I hit G1 and all progress stopped. Really contributed to the discussion there, thanks. Yes and no, its good to know but it's also good to know when to use them. [–]Duplicated 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (2 children). IMO you only need to test run your HH maybe two or three quests then you'll remember most frequently used songs associated with that HH. It does have something special, its called 500 stun and exhaust damage in one move. Like the KO part of the CB? [–]DrZeroHCOME BACK HERE, FUTURE PANTS!!!!! Then, start using them more and more until you reach a point where you're confident that you can block everything with them. I think that's more important than struggling with something you think looks cool. -(b) Link to source in the thread; Just curious why do you think SA has a better evade game? I'm sorry but I don't think guard pointing 3-4 times will eat through your sharpness that much if you have white sharpness unless the white/blue bar is VERY small. but to get to that point, theres a rather long process of getting to know the monster you want to fight. I find the weapon specializes in nothing in particular, so you really have to know which of the myriad of moves the thing has to use at any given time, or you get punished hard. [–]SirKrisX 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children). It also has a charge mechanic and multiple Phials it can fill up while attacking. Or you know, play Evade CB. That said, it's incredibly satisfying to consistently Guard Point a Tigrex or Blos. [–]dentonnn 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children). I went with the Charge Blade ... what style is most fun with it? Games. People on the sub keep saying CB is overpowered and whatnot but fighting [–]JokerVictor[S] 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children). 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children). The two modes are a fast sword & shield mode, while the second is a devastating axe mode! Something I consider good is this: [–]ColickingSeahorse 9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (23 children), Omg, you want high level CB play? With the rajang CB if you think its also relevant. Just reload over it, charging is not a huge deal. Charge Blade is one of the most technical weapons in the game and one of coolest weapons as well. Some of the nerfs include losing the ability to either guardpoint or shield thrust straight into an AED (or Super). if you don't want to over-extend, stay in sword mode until there's a large opening, [–]Finlands_CheesesteakI wish I was a hammerbro. Thanks for that info. I've been using the Desert Rose mostly because of the para effect and the Fulgent Demolisher hoping to get some blast damage in. Personall i had the advantage to have played loads of MH3U and have learned how to properly use Gun Lance though i jumped into MH4 wanting to main the Insect Glaive. But the more i fought him and understood his skills while using the CB, the faster each fight was. It has no tell. I have been hesitant to use charge blade in multiplayer. I like the mobility too, but I still like landing the big hits, so switch axe for me. Thankfully CB and IG share weapon bias for relic runs otherwise I might not have randoms to farm Guild quests with, [–]feihed 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child). Mastering it is harder than the Switch Axe, but so satisfying when you do. Don't neglect your X+A in sword mode. Also the biggest point of guard pointing ISN'T the application of damage really. It has the ability to KO monsters and while doing cutting damage via its impact phials. And in G rank where the monsters punish hard, it's something I do not attempt too much as I do not wish to become a liability to the team. Yet if I abstain from actively using it, I too feel like I'm not using this weapon to its maximum potential. Artwork submissions must adhere to the following criteria: [–]Torden5410 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children). [–]circleseverywhere 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child). It's pretty easy in multiplayers, but you need to git gud and know the monster to be able to pull that off solo. Just once. [–]Redd575 18 points19 points20 points 5 years ago (39 children). Learning the moves and combos of the CB was not difficult for me (minus Guard Points - that took alot of practice). Like the Switch Axe, it can morph between 2 different weapon forms. As a small note, you can Super & Ultra with aerial CB. Long reach, average damage, good mobility, swings fast too. The Charge Blade, more than any other weapon, is all about understanding the monster's skillset and abusing their openings. (fireball, tail spin, charge, roar, bite ...) When he stumbles, you can phial burst his head for an easy stun or ultra his tail for a very easy cut. My friends finally got into MH and now I have a group of 4, ones a DB, one is a Bowman, and the other is an IGer. Yeah, I had to learn a lot of stuff the hard way myself. I was waiting for a diablos quest but it hasn't shown up, since then I've been complacent about it, but if I do decide to take the time to learn it then I'll take your advice :), [–]akmayday 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children). But the fact is that you enjoy the game and progress at your pace. I don't doubt your skill. Guard pointing isn't essential to using the weapon but it makes it alot stronger and versatile. Diablos Tyrannis II - 230 Raw + (180 Ice) If you're lacking a Magazine Jewel, swap the waist … CB has one of the best evade games, the ability to sidestep after any attack in Sword form is huge, its figuratively a gold ticket to deal as much damage as you can then a free out when the monster retaliates. I actually really enjoy the evade style, and decided to stick with it (notice the SA flair there). Tail chopper (high reach): spam X w/o direction input. it's better than just super if you can get a few off. [–]SirKrisX 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children). But man is it worth it when you understand how to use it. Absolute Evade and Readiness help Charge Blade stay a little safe after using a laggy axe attack. I run Apex 140 diablos solo as GB practice. And is it one of the best ones? The X is an uppercut slash so be extra careful, usually though I would weave Draw attack, A, R, hit him a few times with sword, Reload, A to cancel the reload and immediately start hitting in Axe, A again for the double swing, then R, rinse and repeat. When attempting a mount, use RXA it pulls out the Axe, which is larger and easier to land a mount, also succeed or fail the mount you have it sheathed so its not a huge problem. True I still miss some tells and GP too early, but honestly, if I was using any other weapon, I would've missed that same tell and dodged/nocked an arrow too early as well. S.Rath is, annoyingly, hard to any blade master. I dont have anything against SnS users but for me the CB feels powerful and it has a very appealing rhyme and rhythm to it. [–]Ultramus[] 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (4 children). Not to mention every time I GP, there's big chance I miss and get chunked. I appreciate the tips. IG and HH are the two that seemingly require the most unorthodox effort (targeting monster parts for juice, remembering note combinations and playing songs), but CB requires multi-layered resource management, two unique sets of weapon attacks, several unexplained maneuvers, and guard points.
